About the city, What to see & do

Toledo Situated on the left bank of the river Tago, South of Madrid, on a hill 732 meters high. It is protected from a double turn of walls and preserves a medieval atmosphere thanks to the numerous towers, to the ancient access doors to the city, to the tortuous narrow roads and the sumptuous houses decorated in a predominantly Moorish architecture. The city is famous for the craftsmanship of the weapons and the blades.

In the higher part of the city, you can find a vast square building with four towers, called Alc?zar, today center of the military academy. In the city center, you can find the Gothic Cathedral towers (1227-1493), built on the model of the Cathedral of Bourges, the Gothic church of San Juan de los Reyes and the attached convent, gift of Ferdinand V, king of Castile, and his wife Isabella I, El Tr?nsito, a synagogue (1366) transformed in church after the hunting of the Hebrews (1492), and the church of Saint Tom?, ex mosque reconstructed as Gothic church in the XIV century.
The Plaza de Zocodover, dated VII century, reconstructed by the Arabic invaders, it was for long time theatre of the Inquisition acts and the local bullfights.
